چکیده

In this paper, I revisit the constraints obtained by several authors (Reichart et al. 1999; Eke et al. 1998; Henry 2000) on the estimated values of Ωm, n and σ8 in the light of recent theoretical developments: 1) new theoretical mass functions (Sheth & Tormen 1999, Sheth, Mo & Tormen 2001, Del Popolo 2002b); 2) a more accurate mass-temperature relation, also determined for arbitrary Ωm and ΩΛ (Del Popolo 2002a). Firstly, using the quoted improvements, I re-derive an expression for the X-ray Luminosity Function (XLF), similarly to Reichart et al. (1999), and then I get some constraints to Ωm and n, by using the ROSAT BCS and EMSS samples and maximum-likelihood analysis. Then I re-derive the X-ray Temperature Function (XTF), similarly to Henry (2000), re-obtaining the constraints on Ωm, n, σ8. Both in the case of the XLF and XTF, the changes in the mass function and M-T relation produces an increase in Ωm of ≃ 20% and similar results in σ8 and n.

Are Clusters Standard Candles? Galaxy Cluster Scaling Relations with the Sunyaev-zeldovich Effect

An extensive sample of galaxy clusters will be available in the coming years, detected through their Sunyaev–Zeldovich effect (SZE). We use a semi–analytic model to study the scientific yield of combining SZE data with X-ray and optical follow-up observations. If clusters at a given redshift zo can be identified with virialized, spherical halos, they populate a well–defined ”fundamental plane” ...

IMPORTANCE OF CLUSTER STRUCTURAL EVOLUTION IN USING X-RAY AND SUNYAEV-ZELDOVICH EFFECT GALAXY CLUSTER SURVEYS TO STUDY DARK ENERGY SubhabrataMajumdar

We examine the prospects for measuring the dark energy equation-of-state parameter w within the context of the still uncertain redshift evolution of galaxy cluster structure. We show that for a particular X-ray survey (Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect [SZE] survey), the constraints on w degrade by roughly a factor of 3 (factor of 2) when one accounts for the possibility of nonstandard cluster evolution...

Constraints in Cosmological Parameter Space from the Sunyaev-zel’dovich Effect and Thermal Bremsstrahlung

We discuss how the space of possible cosmological parameters is constrained by the angular diameter distance function, DA(z), as measured using the SZ/X-ray method which combines Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect and X-ray brightness data for clusters of galaxies. New X-ray satellites, and ground-based interferometers dedicated to SZ observations, should soon lead to DA(z) measurements limited by ...

Measuring the Cosmic Equation of State with Galaxy Clusters in the DEEP2 Redshift Survey

The abundances of groups and clusters of galaxies are expected to have changed substantially since high redshift, with the strength of this evolution dependent upon fundamental cosmological parameters. Upcoming large redshift surveys of distant galaxies will make it possible to measure these quantities at z ∼ 1; when combined with the results of local redshift surveys currently underway, the ev...

Importance of Cluster Structural Evolution in Using X–ray and Sze Galaxy Cluster Surveys to Study Dark Energy

We examine the prospect of measuring the dark energy equation of state parameter ‘w’ within the context of the still uncertain redshift evolution of galaxy cluster structure. We show that for both an X–ray and an SZE survey the constraints on w degrade by roughly a factor of 3 when one accounts for the possibility of non–standard cluster evolution. With follow–up mass measurements it is possibl...
